Interesting charts. Division data shows that the total of votes lost by the Tory Government in @UKHouseofLords every year since 2015 has been more than 50%. Compare that to Labour's period in Govt - only happened in 2004/5 parly session, which wd've been short bcos of GE. https://t.co/9M0l7aHaaV

This is welcome news from BBC?. But the original move to close BBC Singers shows why a clear strategic purpose & vision to direct BBC decisions about funding priorities is vital - as called for by @LordsCommsCom in our report last year. https://t.co/FWdUX9mL02 https://t.co/Ytb787t6eg

Powerful piece by ⁦⁦@tomowolade⁩ about Oxfam. His message is relevant to all charities. https://t.co/XxnZJyZQRR

Btw, I should make clear - @tomowolade message for charities is relevant about all issues that get categorised as culture wars, not just specific ones. When it comes to Charity (or any non-political institution), the principle of staying above and not taking sides is essential. https://t.co/tlL2o7WsMo

@Dymvue @MattChorley @TimesRadio I’ll let you know - but from a quick read of the intro available on Amazon’s website, it looks great. By way of return, you might be interested in this episode of my podcast - which is a conversation with a former newspaper editor’s secretary. https://t.co/u65YiUzsct

Not about restoring integrity, but respecting need for accountability when using power to appoint. Whilst @UKHouseofLords remains unelected, I believe a PM should be unfettered bcos at least he/she elected & accountable to Parliament. But once resigned, accountability is lost. https://t.co/unGjQX5TNg

Also said it’s not for me or any peer to question who is appointed: none of us have that right. But all of us as peers should hold each other to account for meeting standards once members. More here in my speech during 2nd Reading of @LordNortonLouth Bill https://t.co/Qv0AZXUTPH

@MarkFoxNews @adamboultonTABB @cathynewman @TimesRadio @BorisJohnson @RishiSunak @UKHouseofLords Don’t think ending ‘resignation peerages’ would or could ‘restore integrity’ of Parliament. My point is that, until HoL is elected, accountability is vital and must be demonstrated at every opportunity, and ‘resignation peerages’ dilutes it. See my ‘quote tweet’ & recent speech. https://t.co/rUdi8qVVLj

As I said y’day on @TimesRadio before @trussliz news, @RishiSunak should announce the facility for PMs to nominate to @UKHouseofLords after they’ve resigned must end?. Not about who they appoint, it’s the principle, because they can’t be held to account for these decisions.

Btw contrary to his claim last year, @GordonBrown did have a resignation list. Here’s a @UKHouseofLords paper (see p62-64) showing he nominated 16 Labour peers on resignation. They’re against @DavidCameron’s name bcos he was PM by then. https://t.co/ZB1GbsXDLh

Last year @LordsCommsCom said important for BBC to lead debate about its future by proposing clear strategic purpose & bold plan to address weaknesses & seize opportunities. Letter requests update on progress. BBC’s recent missteps & moves by political parties highlights urgency. https://t.co/XYA1rmPaKF

Nigel Lawson was an active member of @UKHouseofLords for more than 30 years. Young ministers at the dispatch box would fear his precise and testing interventions - but all valued and enjoyed generous discussions with him in private. RIP and condolences to his family. https://t.co/Ro1LrtywKa

Fascinating behind the scenes film of BBC news coincidentally shot the day that Nigel Lawson resigned. Mark Damazer, the quick-talking news editor looks 34 going on 67 (he’s not changed a bit) & there are some brief shots of young-looking future DGs Mark Thompson & Tony Hall. https://t.co/ZbmqSHqZN8

Good news about Media Bill. In addition to my statement on behalf of @LordsCommsCom about positive measures benefiting UK broadcasting sector, I'm also pleased that the Bill includes the repeal of Section 40 of Crime & Courts Bill, which is important for the newspaper industry. https://t.co/v8VQ9IR6YY
