The Government responsed to this petition on 30th January 2023 (View Full Response)

Don't change inheritance tax relief for working farms - 152,001 Signatures
(Estimated Final Signatures: 157,180 - 70 added in the past 24hrs)

We think that changing inheritance tax relief for agricultural land will devastate farms nationwide, forcing families to sell land and assets just to stay on their property. We urge the government to keep the current exemptions for working farms.

The Government responsed to this petition on 5th December 2024 (View Full Response)
The Government’s commitment to farmers is steadfast. There is also an urgent need to repair the public finances in as fair a way as possible. The reform of the reliefs strikes the right balance.

The Government responsed to this petition on 5th December 2022 (View Full Response)

Commit to not amending the Equality Act's definition of sex - Final Signatures: 138,886

It has been reported that the Government may amend the Equality Act to "make it clear that sex means biological sex rather than gender." The Government has previously committed to not remove legal protections for trans people, an already marginalised group, but this change would do so.

The Government responsed to this petition on 25th January 2023 (View Full Response)
This Government believes in individual liberty. There are processes with appropriate checks to allow for those who wish to legally change their gender. Changes to the Equality Act are not necessary.

Make swift bricks compulsory in new housing to help red-listed birds - Final Signatures: 109,896

Swifts have declined by over 50% in the UK. Adult swifts, known for site-fidelity, return to the same nests. We want swift bricks to be required in all new housing, to provide homes for these birds. Surveys show these are used by red-listed swifts, house martins, starlings and house sparrows.

Debate: This petition was debated in Westminster Hall on 10th July 2023

The Government responsed to this petition on 1st December 2022 (View Full Response)
We welcome actions by developers to provide “swift bricks”, however Government considers this a matter for local authorities depending upon the specific circumstances of each site.
